Parua Bay School places a big emphasis on getting all children involved in sporting activities while they are with us. This involvement can in be in the form of participating in new sports through to support for our athletes who go on to compete at district and national levels.
All classrooms will operate physical education programs that teach skills and strategies across a range of sports. Throughout the year these lessons will help equip the children to take on the variety of big school wide sporting events that feature in our typical sports calendar every year.
- Term 1 - Swimming Sports
- Term 2 - Winter Sports
- Term 3 - Cross Country
- Term 4 - Athletics
These large scale events provide pathways for students to go on and represent our school at zone, Whangarei and district levels.
There are often one-off tournaments throughout the year which add to the opportunities our students have to try new sporting opportunities. These include netball, rippa rugby and Ki-o-rahi.
AIMs games tournaments are held each year in Tauranga and also allow for the entry of teams in a wide variety of sports. We have a proud history of competing very highly at these events.
Underpinning our sporting programs is a focus on the hauora (well-being) of our students. Classroom programs contain lessons around caring for ourselves both physically and mentally. In turn these lessons tie in with our school values of relationships, respect, resilience and responsibility.
