Parua Bay School is a dynamic, co-educational full primary school (Years 1–8) located on the stunning Whangārei Heads peninsula, just 20 minutes from Whangārei city. Our setting between the coast, bush, and estuary provides an exceptional environment for learning, play, and exploration — a place where children grow through connection with both people and place.
Our vision, “Navigating Learning Together,” captures our belief that education is a shared journey between students, staff, whānau, and the wider community. We are guided by our four core values — Relationships, Resilience, Respect, and Responsibility — which underpin everything we do. These values are woven throughout daily learning, our house/whānau system, and the way we care for each other and our environment.
At Parua Bay School, learning is active, collaborative, and future-focused. Our teachers work in professional learning teams to provide engaging, evidence-based programmes that develop critical thinking, creativity, and student ownership of learning. We are proud of our culturally responsive and localised curriculum, which reflects our rich Māori heritage, local environment, and the aspirations of our community.
Our campus features modern, purpose-built learning spaces, including the Te Kupenga o te Mātauranga block — an innovative learning hub with eight classrooms, a library, and a maker space — alongside the Te Ākonga block for our junior students. Outdoor learning is supported by extensive play areas, sports fields, gardens, and direct access to our beautiful natural surroundings.
Parua Bay School has a proud history dating back to 1871 and continues to grow alongside our thriving coastal community. Families are drawn to our inclusive, caring culture, high expectations for learning, and strong sense of belonging. Together, we create a school where every child is encouraged to explore their potential, celebrate their identity, and become confident, capable learners — ready to navigate their own learning journey.
